Unusual Pasta Recipes

Bored of the usual pasta in arrabbiata or alfredo sauce?

The pesto sauce was definitely a welcome change, but that is not what pasta sauces are limited to.

Since WowTables is celebrating ‘Pasta Week‘ in Pune, we thought why not share with you some lesser-known, super cool twists to your usual pasta?

  • Penne in Yoghurt-mint sauce

This Middle-Eastern twist to the usual pasta makes for a great summer meal. Mix yoghurt with crushed garlic, mint leaves and seasonings and pour this velvety sauce over warm penne or any pasta of your choice. In case you are looking for a non-vegetarian pasta, toss in some tuna to the yoghurt sauce. Yes, it is that simple.

  • Mexican mac and cheese


Elevate your usual mac n cheese with some Mexican zing. Bell peppers, black beans, jalapenos, sweet corn and tomatoes with loads of chipotle sauce is sure to make this dish irresistible. Garnish with crushed nachos for some extra crunch. Provecho!

  • Lemon Linguine

This one is a great dish to serve at a lazy Sunday brunch. Heat some olive oil in a pan and add lemon juice, lemon zest, grated parmesan and Italian seasonings to this. Keep stirring until you get a thick, glossy sauce. Add the cooked linguine and toss until all the pasta is coated with the sauce. Garnish this with some more lemon zest and mint leaves for that extra freshness.

  • Strawberry spaghetti

The extraordinary pairing of strawberries and spaghetti sounds wacky but is delicious. We wish we had found this recipe earlier. Cook strawberries in warm olive oil until they start releasing their juices. To this add the tomato puree and Italian herbs. Mix well and pour this sauce over warm, cooked spaghetti and garnish with some more juicy strawberries. Find a comfortable couch, pour yourself a glass of red wine and enjoy.

Creamy Hummus Pasta


What better than combining your love for pasta and hummus? In a bowl, mix some home-made or store bought hummus with chicken or vegetarian stock and keep aside. Now, heat a pan and sauté bell peppers, zucchini and just about any vegetables you like. Do not forget the seasonings. Add in the cooked pasta (we personally love fusilli for this one) and turn off the heat. Pour the hummus sauce and garnish with basil and mint leaves.

Avocado, Basil and Lemon Spaghetti


Scoop out an avocado and blend it with lemon juice, crushed garlic, oil, crushed basil leaves and salt and pepper. The key here is to blend just enough to form a velvety sauce. Cook your spaghetti as per packet instructions, add the avocado sauce and toss well. Garnish with freshly grated parmesan and voilà!
