Whether imported, or locally made, we love restaurants and entrepreneurs who are plating up creative cheese platters in Mumbai. We couldn’t help but pick out the best of what the city has to offer and are sharing some wine pairings too!
The Good Wife, Bandra Kurla Complex
Emmental Cheese that originates from Switzerland is yellow and texture wise, qualifies as a medium-hard cheese and forms a part of the platter. Their cheese platter also includes two kinds of Cheddar — white and yellow and the semi-soft, creamy Danish Blue Cheese. They recommend that a dry, sparkling wine pair well with the different varieties of cheese in this platter.
JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar, Andheri
The Director of Restaurants, Deepak Shettigar, tells us that they include a variety of cheeses that range from the slightly nutty Fontina, Gouda that originates from the city of Gouda in Netherlands, Provolone and Gruyere. He also recommends a whole range of wines to pair— Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 2013, Brancaia Ilatraia 2011, Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone 2013 and Dönnhoff Riesling 2012.
Craft Deli Bistro Bar, Phoenix Marketcity Kurla
The restaurant promotes the use of artisanal cheeses that they source both locally and import on a weekly basis. You can pair any 3 cheeses from their wide selection — Brie, Camembert, Robiola, Applewood Smoked Cheddar, Chilli Sambal Dutch Gouda, aged Grana Pad a No and many more, with crusty baguette, whipped butter and olives! Local Sula Riesling, Italian La Cacciatora Pinot Grigio and Camas Cabernet Sauvignon are some of the wines they recommend with the platter.
Yellow Bar All Day, Khar
They call their traditional offering of cheeses ‘Cheese Mania’ that includes Parmesan, Cheddar, Blue Cheese, Pecorino, and Brie served with crackers, dry fruits, grapes and honey. Bellini, a cocktail made with sparkling wine and peach liqueur is their recommendation for cheese enthusiasts!
Seven Kitchens, St Regis Mumbai, Lower Parel
This all-day restaurant serves Cheddar, Parmesan, Stilton and Edam along with some delectable fruits and crackers. The ingenious sommeliers at The St. Regis Mumbai will be more than happy to introduce diners to the different wines which complement the classic selection.
Amadeus, Nariman Point
Manchego, a hard Spanish sheep’s milk cheese, Ash Chevre, Brie, and Parmesan are the mouth-watering cheeses on their platter which they recommend with either a Mannara Grillo Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc.
Haute Chef, Mumbai
If you’re entertaining at home and can’t shop for cheeses individually, then try ordering the ‘meal kit’ version that includes Edam, Emmental, Monterey Jack, Brie and Cheddar! We’re sure your party will be the highlight of your guests’ week.
The Spotted Cow Fromagerie, Mumbai
From supplying to restaurants and individuals, we love our home-grown entrepreneurs. Made and inspired by ‘Bombay’ they make vegetarian and preservative-free cheeses like ‘Camembay’, ‘Bombrie’ and ‘Rombay!
