1. Crispy chicken burger at Indigo Delicatessen
Indigo Deli actually has plenty of great chicken dishes to choose from, so which one you prefer is down to personal choice. For me, it’s the fried chicken burger with its crispy, juicy patty, an extra dab of the deli’s great mustard, and thick-cut fries on the side. You may also like (I know I do) the chicken Caesar salad; the Bombay chicken wings, which come with blue cheese dip; simple, hearty roast chicken or even the fried chicken with slaw and aioli.
2. Peri peri rubbed smoked chicken at Smoke House Deli (Reserve now)
Despite a menu packed with delicious dishes, this chicken is the one that’s kept me coming back for more. Smoky and full of flavour, this is chicken done right.
3. Boneless chicken wings at The Table
One of the more innovative dishes on our list, The Table’s boneless chicken wings are served as little cubes which come with a delicious ginger glaze and brioche on the side. Belying the fancy presentation, the meat is tender and simply seasoned.
4. Chicken farcha at Ideal Corner
Parsi-style fried chicken is just one of many ways you can fry this meat and (maybe I’m being biased here) it’s one of the best as well. The chicken is coated in a special masala, dipped in an egg batter (which gives the chicken its lacy, frilly coating) and deep fried.
Remember: Ideal Corner’s Parsi lunch menu changes daily, with a fixed rotation every week, so you may not always get what you’re looking for.

5. Grilled chicken at Terttulia
Terttulia’s grilled chicken is simple, straightforward and delicious. The meat is treated with a sea salt rub before being grilled and is served in a red wine jus, with mashed potatoes and veggies on the side.
6. Hot basil chicken cups at Mamagoto
Spicy, coarsely minced chicken is served in lettuce cups to make for a juicy, addictive chicken starter.
7. Chicken chelo kebab at Copper Chimney
You’ll be dreaming about this one for days. It’s a slightly bastardised version of the Iranian dish, but so, so good. Tender chicken kebabs are buried under a mountain of buttery, creamy, slightly sweet rice. It’s decadent and guilt-inducing, but worth the extra time on the treadmill – trust me.

8. Tandoori chicken at Khane Khas
This one’s a little tough to call, and I’m not brave enough to declare just one tandoori chicken the best in the city. At most places, it can be very hit-and-miss: a minute too long in the tandoor and its dry, a minute less, and it’s undercooked. Usually, though, Khane Khas gets it just right.
9. Grilled chicken “on the board” at The Sassy Spoon (Reserve now)
Grilled chicken is one of the simplest ways to prepare chicken, but also one of the easiest to mess up. The Sassy Spoon is yet another restaurant that blessedly gets it right and serves it with a fresh, zesty jalapeno dressing and potatoes of the day.

10. Chicken and waffles at Ellipsis (Reserve now)
Sourdough waffles and juicy buttermilk fried chicken are a match made in heaven while the house-made Sriracha with caramelised bacon manages to achieve the perfect balance between spicy, sweet and savoury, holding the whole dish together. This is American soul food at its best.
