#ChugLife: A Beery Treat To Beat Mumbai Summers

3 May , 2016

As the temperatures soar, there’s no perfect time to sit back with a chilled glass of beer. We don’t mean the commercial stuff, but the one of kind craft beers that are brewed across Mumbai. Drink your way through some of the city’s finest microbrew offerings. Here’s a good place to start:

Doolally TaproomFine Dine Love
Wooden lounge seats, communal tables and witty beer posters offer a charming ambiance to grab an ice cold beer. Take your pick from among their locally brewed beers that are made in Pune and delivered to Mumbai every day. The Roggenbier is a darker variety with dry rye ale will give you an addictive spicy-sour aftertaste and spritzy mouth feel that will have you going back for one more sip. The Hefeweizen features unfiltered beer made with German wheat, having notes of cloves and banana. Also available on tap is the Apple Cider, made with Himachal apples having a refreshingly crisp taste. Lastly, the Oatmeal Stout is brewed with oats and malts offering a silky feel as you chug through with notes of caramel, chocolate with an excellent chocolate espresso-style aftertaste that lingers on between each sip.  Spoilt for choice already? Doolally has around two dozen beers that can keep you busy, all summer long!

Brewing away at ice cold temperatures, Brewbot is fashioned after an old-school brewery, with large stainless steel brewing vats in the middle of the room. Among their artisanal buds, the most popular is the Skywalker — a Kolsch beer, the Floating Head — a Hefewizen, the Mojo Rising — a mild western pale ale and ‘Black Mamba’ — a chocolate oat cream stout. For those looking for something lighter, opt for the Passion Fruit Lager! Paired with classic pub food and music, this microbrewery has all the elements for a beery successful boy’s night out.

The Barking DeerFine Dine Love
As the first bar to offer the city its maiden sip of craft beer, The Barking Deer still remains hugely popular, and for all the right reasons! From their robust India Pale Ale to the heavier Flying Pig Belgian Wit, the list of beers they have on tap is compelling. The Bombay Blonde is a crowd favourite, helping patrons switch smoothly from commercial lagers to artisanal ones, it’s barely bitter with slightly tart end notes and 5% alcohol by volume. As refreshing as a lime soda on a hot summer’s day!

The White Owl Fine Dine Love
You can’t call yourself a beer lover if you haven’t visited the White Owl. Take your pick among their one-off creations. They offer four blends from light to dark in 90ml, 330 ml or 550 ml. Halcyon (a fruity, German wheat beer), Torpedo (an American pail with citrus notes to cut through the bitterness) and the Shadow (a strong English beer with a mild chocolate taste) are just some of them. Yet another crowd pleaser is Diablo, an Irish Red Ale which goes down smoothly, thanks to its use of caramel, chocolate and roasted malts.  No matter which one you choose, their wide mouthed jars with signature white owl logo is perfect to take in the aroma of each of them.
