Luckily, Mumbai has its brownie fans covered with these indulgent offerings:
Just Chocolate at Sleight of Hand
Long before Theobroma, Sleight of Hand was south Mumbai’s worst-kept secret, selling brownies out of a counter in a luxe furniture and antiques shop at Fort. Regulars swear by their Just Chocolate, while their Cappuccino Whiff has a great coffee kick to it. But with plenty of brownies to choose from, these soft as sin beauties (they practically melt as you bite into them) are all winners.
Millionaire Brownies at Theobroma
One of the most popular dessert chains in Mumbai, in the short time since Theobroma first opened, their brownies have become legend. Their classic chocolate brownie has always been a favourite – it’s perfectly textured, soft, and not too sweet, despite the chocolate chips baked into it – but if you prefer a sugar overload, their Millionaire Brownies are a must-try. A rich caramel layer is sandwiched between a chocolate chip brownie and equally rich chocolate truffle. Other favourites include the Chocolate Overload, Oreo Brownie, Caramel Shortbread Brownie, Red Velvet Brownie and their blondies.
Nutella Brownie at Le 15 Patisserie
Pooja Dhingra’s Le 15 might be best known for its macaroons, but this patisserie chain deserves serious applause for bringing together two of our favourite things – brownies and Nutella – to give us the epic Nutella Brownie. Over at Dhingra’s Le 15 Café, try Sophie, a chocolate brownie layered with nuts, cheesecake and chunks of Snickers served with caramel.
Neeru’s Cakes & Desserts
The mother-daughter duo of Neeru and Shradha Mehra have been providing divine baked goods and innovative cakes, cupcakes and even modaks to south Mumbai families for a while now, and their brownies are as good as anything else you can order from them. While they have regular gooey brownies, chocolate chip, Nutella, and Oreo, if you’re feeling calorie conscious, they even do a butter-free brownie.
Brownies by Jennifer Thanawalla
Another south Mumbai home baker who whips up some seriously great treats, Jennifer Thanawalla’s chocolate brownies are delicious and decadent — as any self-respecting brownie ought to be. (You can place your orders at +919820309775.)
Tiramisu Brownies at SugarOverDose
The brownies at SugarOverDose range from the regular flavours to some pretty unique ones. While the brownie pops are a delicious favourite, adventurous eaters may like to try the guava walnut or, as interesting but a little less risky, the raspberry or the tiramisu brownies. The blondies at SugarOverDose are delicious too. While the lemon one is a safe bet, you need to try the Kacchi Kairi and Pudina blondie at least once.
Brownies by Anurita’s Eighth
Regulars swear by Anurita’s delicious desserts, and it’s not hard to see why. Her brownies are just as addictive as anything else she whips up.
Country of Origin
Like pretty much everything else here, the brownies at Country of Origin are to die for. Favourites include the Double Chocolate and the Hazelnut Crème.
Better known for their huge variety of cupcakes, Guilt Trip’s brownies pass the gooeyness test with aplomb.
Brownie Point has been around for a while now, which means they’re obviously doing something right. Considering brownies are the focus of this dessert spot, you’ll have a lot to choose from, including the M&M Brownie, Kahlua Brownie, and the Bounty Brownie.
Truffles by Shireen Adenwalla
Hearty and decadent, Shireen Adenwalla does a brownie pudding (with a rum cream sauce) that’s the culinary equivalent of a warm hug. On her high tea menu, her Caramel Iced Brownies and Champagne and White Chocolate Brownies are to die for as well.
