5 Mexican Restaurants in Mumbai

20 Apr , 2015

It’s no secret that we Indians love our spices. From biryani to bombil curry, everything tastes better with a healthy dose of chillies and garam masala. But, if you’re looking to change things up a little, why not try out a different cuisine with the same fiery flavour? Welcome to the world of Mexican cuisine; food is as flavour and passion filled as our favourite Indian curries, but has twists in flavour and style that may be the remedy for your jaded taste buds. In Mumbai, the Mexican food scene, like the cuisine is exploding. A meal in one of these five restaurants will make you feel like you’re like Livin’ La Vida Loca.

Zapata’s is one of the few restaurants in Mumbai with only Mexican cuisine. Indeed, the whole vibe of the restaurant is purely Mexican, with a focal point of one wall being a large, drug lord inspired dog wearing a sombrero and smoking a Cuban cigar. The plating is equally authentic, arriving attractively piled either on thick wooden slabs, or simple black plates. However, what makes a meal at Zaapta’s such a delightful experience is the food; fresh ingredients combined into meals that are bursting with flavour. We particularly liked the chilli con pollopicada, along with their host of South American cocktails.

Vegetarians will love Quattro at Lower Parel for its pure vegetarian Mexican fare. Warm lighting and a blend of Mexican, Italian and Mumbai inspired wall decor provide the perfect atmosphere for you to sit back and enjoy your meal. You could be spoiled for choice, since almost every dish has received stellar reviews from all the restaurant’s patrons. WowTables helps you navigate the choices, putting together a four course meal with its selection of the very best that the restaurant has to offer.

If you’re looking for a quick snack rather than a sit down dinner, make a stop at Mexiloko in Bandra. Mexiloko has all the Mexican food staples; nachos, tacos, quesadillas and burritos, but allows you to mix and match your own fillings. Finish your meal with the sticky toffee cake.

Loco Chino

Can’t decide whether you’re in the mood for Mexican or Chinese? How about both? Loco Chino makes this possible, with a menu of both separate cuisines. Test your taste buds by switching between a plate of dim sum and plate of nachos – can you handle it? If you’re completely set on Mexican fare, try the burrito bowl. Special mention for the guacamole which is packed with loca flavour.

When she’s not playing with her dogs, street dogs or her friends’ dogs, Karishma can be found curled up with a large slice of cheesecake and a nice book. She has an intense relationship with spicy food, and her penchant for sushi and sake is always burning holes in her pocket.
